Course Overview

To apply for a CLP in Virginia, you must be at least 18 (intrastate) and hold a valid driver’s license. You obtain the CLP by passing the CDL general knowledge exam and any additional knowledge exams required for the class/vehicle/endorsements you want (e.g., Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles for Class A, Passenger, Tanker). The skills (road) test happens later when you’re ready to earn the full CDL.

Our instructor-led class follows the Virginia CDL manual and focuses on:

Attend in-person at our Fredericksburg center or online for the classroom portion. (Behind-the-wheel always occurs in person.)

  • Understand Virginia DMV CDL requirements and testing structure.
  • Learn commercial-vehicle rules of the road, safety, and inspections.
  • Prepare for class-specific topics (Air Brakes, Combination, etc.).
  • Build confidence to continue into CDL Class A or B training.

Enrollment & Tuition

Register online or in person; we accept cash, card, money order, or check. You’ll receive study materials and permit practice resources. After completing the class, you’ll be prepared to take the Virginia CLP knowledge exams.

Fee Credit: When you enroll in a 2020 CDL Training program after earning your permit, your Permit Class fee ($100) is credited toward your CDL tuition.
